Thank you for choosing me to be your Newborn Photographer.

Your newborn photoshoot might be the first little outing with your brand new baby, and you might be feeling a little nervous about it. Rest assured, I will guide you through the entire process to make it a stress-free, enjoyable experience.

In order to create a sucessful session for you, please carefully read through the following information.

what to prepare before your newborn session

BRING THE ESSENTIALS

Nappies, formula feed if required, dummy etc.  A change of clothes for parents, incase, your little one has an accident on you.

food and snacks

I provide snacks, water & hot drinks. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks.

wear comfy clothes

It gets very warm in the studio! You can come dressed in comfy clothes if you prefer and if you’re doing family photos you can change in the bathroom in the studio.

suggestions for what to wear

Mum | A simple dress or top with jeans in neutral creamy tones is absolutely perfect!

Dad | A button shirt in pastel colors (no stripes) or a plain white or black t-shirt.

Siblings | For a boy a simple top similar to Dad’s with neutral color trousers or jeans. For a girl a simple white, pink or cream dress.

Here are a few things that can help keep baby settled during their first newborn session. Please don’t worry if you are not able to do them.

Once you arrive at the studio I will do my best to soothe and settle your baby.

what to prepare on your newborn session day

IF YOU’RE TRAVELING A LONG DISTANCE…

Most babies love the car and often fall asleep. However, If travelling a long distance, please keep baby awake as much as possible.

IF BABY IS REALLY GASSY…

If baby is experiencing lots of gas, gripe water can really help comfort the baby. { You can consult your health visitor regarding this. } If you are breastfeeding, please try to avoid eating  spicy or gassy foods 24 hours before the session & avoid drinking coffee on the morning of your session

WHAT TO DRESS YOUR BABY IN?

Dress your baby in a button or zip up outfit. (no onesie underneath please). This helps prevent waking the baby when I undress them at the start of the session.

FEEDING

If possible please fully feed baby 30 minutes before the session. Should baby still be awake when you arrive, I will get you to give them a top-up should they need it. Bringing a bottle and pacifier on the session day can also help keeping baby comfy.

PLEASE TRY TO KEEP BABY AWAKE…

About 45 minutes to an hour before you leave your house for the session, please try and keep your baby awake and alert as best as you can.

what to expect on your newborn session day

HOW LONG WILL THE SESSION BE?

Newborn Sessions can take up to 3 hours. I don’t rush my newborn sessions and I like to follow the baby’s lead. Making sure baby is comfortable is my number one priority.

THE STUDIO WILL BE WARM

The studio will be very warm in order to keep your baby comfortable and sleepy. Please dress in layers so you don’t get too hot.

CAN WE HAVE PARENT AND SIBLING SHOTS?

Its so lovely to capture sibling shots. As a newborn shoot can take up to 3 hours, I recommend sibling and family shots are done at the end of the shoot. Often, siblings are brought along at the end of the session, so they do not need to sit around for the duration. Please do not worry if this cannot happen – we can discuss alternatives.

FEEDING DURING THE SESSION

It is often the case that your baby needs feeding a few times during a newborn session. Please do not worry if they need feeding more than usual – this is very common.

SETTLING YOUR BABY

During the session, I will take care of your baby if they get fussy/or wake up – I have many soothing techniques , including swaddling and using white noise. I try to allow very little handling with the parens  during the session, as i can often make baby moe irritable, especially if they can smell mummy’s milk. I will hand you baby back to you if I feel they need feeding or are very unsettled.

please complete the newborn questionnaire before your session
