Can pregnancy cravings give you a clue to the sex of your baby?

50-90% of women experience cravings at some point during their pregnancy.

MY BIZARRE PREGNANCY CRAVINGS

Corned Beef was my biggest food craving whilst pregnancy with my first child .  I couldn’t get enough of the meat.  So, when I started eating it out of the blue 18 months after my first child was born, my husband asked me if I could be pregnant.  Guess what… to my surprise, I was pregnant again!  However, during my second pregnancy, I began to crave anything sweet and so began the food craving  for Mars Bar ice creams. I went on to have a girl.

Supposedly, the most common food cravings are:

  • Chocolate.
  • Lemons.
  • Spicy food.
  • Ice Cream.
  • Red Meat.
  • Cheese.
  • Pickles.
  • Peanut Butter.

WHY DO YOU GET PREGNANCY CRAVINGS?

During pregnancy, most women have some form of craving, whether that be for sweet, salty, spicy or fatty foods.

If you do start having cravings, it’ll probably be in your first trimester (it could be as early as 5 weeks into pregnancy). They’ll get stronger in your second trimester, and then eventually stop in your third trimester.  These cravings are mostly due to hormonal changes, but some propose that the sex of a baby can be revealed by looking at these cravings.

If I look at myself, my first pregnancy I craved corned beef and crisps and had a baby boy, but for my second pregnancy, I had cravings for anything sweet and went on to have a girl.

CAN PREGNANCY CRAVINGS HELP PREDICT THE SEX OF YOUR BABY?

Many individuals believe that if a woman primarily craves sweets, or sweet based foods,  it is said that she will have a girl. She will have a boy, if a woman craves sour, salty, spicy or protein-rich foods.

Obviously, there is no evidence to prove any of these myths, but in my case,  for both my pregnancies, the myth was right. What about you?

Did your pregnancy cravings, result in what the myth says is the correct sex of your baby?

Are you a mum to be?  What are your food cravings?

I would love to hear what people think xx
