GOOD BOOKS TO READ DURING LOCKDOWN?
Looking for some good book recommendations?
Ever found yourself mindlessly scrolling on your phone during lockdown?
I HAVE! And I noticed it started happening more and more often.
Now, I have never been an avid reader however, I thought, something good has to come from all this time in doors.
So, I started reading!
If you are looking for some good books to read during lockdown, then, I have read some fantastic books which I thought I would share. So here is an overview of my top 5 reading books for Lockdown 3.0.
1. GIRL WITH THE LOUDING VOICE
THE NEW YORK TIMES AND TIMES TOP TEN BESTSELLER
The book is written from the eyes of Adunni, a young teenage girl growing up in a rural Nigerian village. She longs to get an education so that she can find her ‘louding voice’ and speak up for herself. An inspirational read for all about the power of fighting for your dreams- it certainly made me think and appreciate all that I have.
2. WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING
This book is a story of survival, love, hope, prejudice & nature. It is a very moving and beautifully written with such unforgettable characters.
The story is about a young woman name Kya, who is left to raise herself in the marshes of North Carolina when her family abandons her at a young age. There is so much to her story: romance, mystery, and a murder…
“Kya is a born naturalist with just one day of school, she takes life’s lessons from the land, learning the real ways of the world from the dishonest signals of fireflies. But while she has the skills to live in solitude forever, the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. 3. THE END OF HER
I think I finished this book in 2 days! Certainly a gripping story.
The story tells of Stephanie and Patrick who are recently married with newborn twins. Stephanie has everything she ever wanted! However a woman from Patrick’s past arrives one day insisting that his first wife was murdered although he always claims her death was an accident.
I loved this psychological thriller. I certainly couldn’t put the book down and so for me is a must for a good book to read during lockdown.
4. THE NIGHTINGALE
Such a beautiful emotive book. It is the story of two sisters, just coming of age in France on the eve of World War II, and their struggle to survive and resist the German occupation of France.
I loved this book. It was beautifully written, very engaging and left me in tears.
A definite must on my recommendations of good books to read.
5. VOX
When I first started reading this book, it reminded me of the Handmaid’s tail. In the Vox, the American government only allow women to speak up t0 100 words a day. They have been silenced. The leading character in the story Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial – this can’t happen here. Not in America. Not to her.
Add this to your book list as a worthwhile read.
