Pregnancy is where your story as a mother begins.

A maternity photoshoot is the chance to capture those special memories, not only for you, but for your little one.

I know some pregnant women may feel uncomfortable with the thought of a shoot, so, although I give my advice on how to choose the right maternity photographer, the key priority  is that they make you feel comfortable.

Without this, nothing else matters.  

The photographer needs to make you feel relaxed, comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. 

Here are some other points to consider:

1. SPECIALISM AND EXPERIENCE

Would you trust someone to cut your hair who wasn’t a qualified hairdresser?

Same applies with photography.

Make sure you book a photographer with experience.  

An experienced maternity photographer uses light and poses to flatter the pregnant form.  

They will have outfits and materials to make you look amazing.

Check out their portfolio to review the quality of their work.

What style are you looking for?

Do you want all white and natural or are you looking for maternity images with variety?

Do you like nude, black and white or more creative and flamboyant images

Always look at their portfolio on the website to make sure the style matches your thoughts and ideas.

REFERRALS AND REVIEWS

We all look at reviews, whether we are choosing a restaurant or holiday destination.

4. AVAILABILITY

The ideal time to have a maternity session is between 28-36 weeks

I would suggest looking for your maternity photographer early to guarantee availability

We all have a budget when booking a photographer

However, don’t forget, like everything, you get what you pay for.

Make sure you know the pricing of the session and products in advance.

You don’t want any hidden surprises.

6. STYLING AND MAKEUP ARTIST

Check if the session includes a makeover.

A makeup artist works with the photographer to make you look your best.

Whether that is a natural look or something a bit more dramatic, makeup is used to enhance.

Does the photographer provide the outfits?

How many styled looks will they achieve?

Speak with a photographer.  Make sure you feel comfortable with them.
